didea - Designs a contemporary diner in Sicily

2026-03-06

There is a moment, in hospitality projects, when architecture stops accompanying service and begins to structure it. The new concept designed by Didea originates precisely at this point: in the definition of a space capable of combining speed of service, quality of experience, and architectural recognisability through a contemporary, essential, and replicable language.

The project forms part of the evolution of a Sicilian family business that has been active in the food sector for generations and has, in recent years, expanded its original activity with a network of hospitality spaces. The new concept positions itself as a concrete alternative to conventional fast food, particularly for families: an informal and accessible environment where operational efficiency meets food quality within a space conceived for staying and gathering.

Rooted in the imagery of 1950s American diners, the project is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens and subtly infused with references to 1970s office interiors.

Steel takes center stage, shaped into continuous surfaces and linear and curved geometries that define counters, furnishings, and details, evoking the industrial aesthetic of historic diners through a clean and controlled language. Red runs through the space as an identifying element in the grid ceiling, while wooden details introduce a warmer note, balancing the technical components and making the environment welcoming and suited to everyday use. The relationship between dining area and kitchen is articulated through thresholds and transparencies that make the work visible without turning it into quotation, integrating it naturally into the architectural narrative.
